Application

Engineered for Tunnel Segment Connection

Tunnel segment bolting systems need to accommodate the geometry, loading conditions and installation requirements of each project. The bolt and socket combination must provide the required connection performance and allowing efficient segment installation.

Optimas International supplies a wide range of bolting systems with socket lengths from 80mm to 175mm and pull-out capacities up to 400 kN, with configurations available to meet project-specific design requirements.

We also supply a wide range of steel grades, from carbon steel to heat-treated grades (8.8–10.9), with finishes including plain and hot-dip galvanised. For more demanding environments, stainless steel grades are also available.

Materials and Quality

Materials, Finishes and Quality Matched to the Application

Material and socket selection depends on the required mechanical performance, installation method and whether the connection is intended for temporary erection or permanent use.

Plastic sockets are available in PP, ABS and PA+FG for temporary or standard applications, while stainless steel sockets provide a corrosion-resistant option for permanent connections. We also supply carbon steel, with Grade 10.9 available for applications requiring higher tensile and shear performance.

Optimas International manages bolting systems against the agreed project specification, with dimensional and quality requirements controlled throughout manufacture and supply. Engineering support helps ensure the selected configuration is compatible with the segment recess, joint geometry and installation process.

Our innovative OPTI.Fix® system provides a new method for fixing sockets within segment moulds, improving efficiency, quality and safety during tunnel construction. It delivers significant time savings through easier installation and demoulding, while reducing maintenance and supporting greater production automation.

Frequently Asked Questions

Tunnel segment bolting systems connect precast concrete segments during tunnel construction, including radial joint, segment to segment and circumferential joint, ring-to-ring connections.

Selection depends on your segment design, ring geometry and loading conditions. Our engineering team works from your project specification to recommend the right grade and socket combination.

We supply bolting systems for both radial (segment-to-segment) and circumferential (ring-to-ring) tunnel segment joints, in carbon and stainless steel with plastic or stainless socket options.

Sockets are available in PP, ABS and PA+FG plastic materials, as well as stainless steel. The appropriate option depends on the installation method, service requirements and project specifications.

Carbon steel is the primary supply material, with Grade 10.9 available for applications requiring higher tensile and shear performance. Other grades and materials can be considered according to the project specifications.

Socket lengths range from 80mm to 175mm, allowing the system to be configured around different segment and recess requirements.

Yes. Alongside bolting systems, we can supply associated components including dowel systems, guiding rods, grouting and lifting systems, marking plates, radial coupling and shear cones as part of a broader tunnel segment package.

Dowel systems are faster to install and hold tighter tolerances, while bolting systems remain the standard, dependable choice across most tunnel packages.

OPTI.Fix® provides a more efficient method for fixing sockets within segment moulds, helping save time during installation and demoulding while reducing maintenance and supporting improved production consistency and automation.
